Background of the Study
The advent of mobile technology has revolutionized business transactions, providing small businesses with the tools to improve efficiency, expand their customer base, and increase revenue. Point-of-sale (POS) operators in Adamawa State, who facilitate payments and transactions for various businesses, are increasingly adopting mobile apps to streamline their operations (Olawale, 2023). These apps enable operators to manage payments, track sales, and improve customer service, all while reducing operational costs and errors.

However, despite the growing popularity of mobile apps in business transactions, there is limited research on the extent of their adoption and the specific benefits for POS operators in Adamawa State. Understanding the impact of mobile app adoption on business operations can help improve the efficiency and financial performance of POS operators in the region.

Statement of the Problem
Many POS operators in Adamawa State have not fully embraced mobile apps for business transactions, largely due to factors such as low technological literacy, limited access to smartphones, and concerns about data security. This has hindered their ability to capitalize on the benefits that mobile apps offer, such as quicker transactions, better record-keeping, and enhanced customer engagement. Evaluating the adoption and effectiveness of these apps will provide valuable insights into how they can improve business performance and support the growth of POS operations in the state.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To assess the extent of mobile app adoption among POS operators in Adamawa State.
  2. To evaluate the impact of mobile apps on the operational efficiency and financial performance of POS operators.
  3. To recommend strategies for increasing mobile app adoption among POS operators in Adamawa State.

Research Questions

  1. To what extent have POS operators in Adamawa State adopted mobile apps for business transactions?
  2. How do mobile apps influence the operational efficiency and financial performance of POS operators?
  3. What challenges do POS operators face in adopting mobile apps for business transactions?

Research Hypotheses

  1. H0: Mobile app adoption does not significantly improve the operational efficiency of POS operators in Adamawa State.
  2. H0: There is no significant relationship between the use of mobile apps and improved financial performance for POS operators.
  3. H0: Challenges related to mobile app adoption do not significantly hinder the performance of POS operators in Adamawa State.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study focuses on POS operators in Adamawa State and evaluates their adoption and use of mobile apps for business transactions. Limitations include the variability in app usage across operators and potential biases in self-reported data from participants.

Definitions of Terms

  1. Mobile Apps: Software applications designed to run on mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets, used for various business functions such as payments and sales tracking.
  2. POS Operators: Individuals or businesses that facilitate point-of-sale transactions, including processing payments and issuing receipts.
  3. Business Transactions: Financial exchanges between businesses and their customers, including sales and payment processing.
